James "Cully" Joyce
Cully Joyce hails from Charleston SC, though he spent most of his formative years in Miami Florida. He studied jazz at North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) from 1989 – 1993 training under Rich Matteson and Dan Haerle among others on the faculty. He and/or his arrangements have been featured on over thirty-five recordings, and he’s played with such jazz greats as Ernie Watts, Marv Stamm, Chris Vadala, John Faddis, Michael Abene, Wycliffe Gordon, and Rufus Reid to name a few. He’s arranged music for numerous performers to include Wynonna Judd, Faith Hill, Lari White, Ernie Watts, the Macon Symphony, the Falconaires, Christ Church Choir, and numerous Air Force ensembles. In 2009, Mr. Joyce retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty years of service performing, leading, and directing numerous music ensembles. Today, he continues to arrange for various ensembles throughout the country and perform as a freelance woodwind artist in Colorado.
